NC Private Security/Special Police Officer stole, pawned jewelry from store
Alamance County NC Aug 25 2019
A former Gibsonville police officer was arrested Monday, Aug. 19, after law enforcement officials in Alamance and Guilford counties say he stole and then pawned jewelry from a Greensboro store where he was working private security.
Daniel Wayne Emery, 43, of 327 Alamance St., Apt. A, was charged by the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office with one count of obtaining property under false pretense. Greensboro police said Emery’s employer also took out warrants for his arrest for six counts of larceny by an employee, which were served by Gibsonville police.
According to arrest warrants, Emery was working private security with Phoenix Special Police at Schiffman’s Jewelers on Friendly Center Road in Greensboro when he stole three pairs of earrings, two bracelets and a diamond ring.
Emery is accused of selling the earrings to National Pawn on Huffman Mill Road, Burlington, for $500 on May 16.
Emery was employed by the Gibsonville Police Department until he was fired in January 2017. A K-9 handler, Emery was profiled in the Times-News in 2011. Police Chief Ron Parrish would not disclose why he was fired.
Attempts to contact Phoenix Special Police were unsuccessful as the company’s phone number was disconnected.
Bond was set at $4,000. Emery had a first appearance in Guilford County court Friday morning and will appear in Alamance County court Sept. 10.
