NC woman charged in death of Loomis security officer
Nash County NC Jan 27 2018 A Greenville woman faces charges in connection with the Thursday motor vehicle death of a Loomis armored vehicle driver in Nash County.
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office, Nash County EMS, Bailey Fire Department and N.C. Highway Patrol responded about 7:05 a.m. Thursday to a call about an accident on U.S. 264 West near the Bailey exit. The accident involved a Honda CRV driven by Leila Faranesh, 43, of Greenville, and a Loomis armored vehicle driven by Ricky Stewart, 46, of Holly Springs.
Trooper J.M. Phillips of the N.C. Highway Patrol told the Telegram that Faranesh apparently had run her car off the left side of the road and then over-corrected, crossing the lane line and sideswiping the Loomis armored vehicle that was traveling beside it.
As a result, the armored vehicle veered off the right side of the road, rolled over, struck several trees and came to rest on the shoulder of the road.
Phillips said Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene.
Faranesh faces a charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
According to N.C. General Statutes, the charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle applies when “the person unintentionally causes the death of another person” and “the person was engaged in the violation of any state law or local ordinance applying to the operation or use of a vehicle or to the regulation of traffic, other than impaired driving.”
