Nebraska theft suspects face list of charges after chase and crash
BELLEVUE, Neb. Nov 25 2017 Two theft suspects nabbed after their stolen SUV crashed into another vehicle Wednesday night are faced with a Thanksgiving full of charges.
They’re identified as Adam Diaz Jr., 23, and John Blake, 39.
They were piloting an SUV that had been reported stolen in Texas and police say they were shoplifting at a Target store in Bellevue.
Diaz, of Arizona, waited outside at the wheel of the SUV while Blake, of Omaha, was allegedly thieving items from the store shelves.
Store security noticed Blake lifting merchandise and by the time the two men were driving off, Bellevue Police were initiating a pursuit. In the course of that chase, the SUV crashed into a sedan at 36th and Chandler and the sedan caromed into a fire hydrant.
Diaz and Blake ran. Officers moved faster. Diaz and Blake are in jail.
The driver of the sedan that was hit by the fleeing SUV, James Caha, was taken to the hospital for treatment of a head injury that is not considered to be life threatening. He was listed in stable condition on Thursday afternoon.
Diaz faces charges that include Theft by Receiving, Willful Reckless Driving, Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest, Violating a Stop Sign, No Operator’s License, Obstruction of a Peace Officer and drug charges.
Blake is accused of Theft by Receiving, Obstruction of a Peace Officer, Shoplifting and being a Fugitive from Justice.
