New Haven officer dies after Myrtle Beach motorcycle accident
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. May 28 2017 New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell has announced the passing of Officer Edward Douglas in a motorcycle accident early Saturday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., a New Haven police press release said.
Myrtle Beach police were called at 4:19 a.m. to the scene of the crash on Oak Street in Myrtle Beach. There were no other vehicles involved, investigating officers said.
Officer Douglas died about 9:25 a.m.
Officer Douglas began his basic police training in January of 2013. He was assigned to the New Haven Department’s Community Patrol Division in August of 2013, after graduating from the academy and successfully completing his in-service training. In late 2016, he was assigned to the Investigative Services Division, where he worked in the Narcotics Unit, the press release said.
“Officer Douglas’ death has shaken New Haven’s 497-member department, of which he was a valuable and highly respected member,” Public Information Officer David Hartman said in the release.
Officer Douglas is survived by his mother, father and three brothers, the release said.
