NJ man charged with robbery for fighting Rite-Aid security during theft attempt
Bayonne NJ April 11 2018Â A Bayonne man was charged with robbery and shoplifting Friday afternoon when he was caught after pushing his way past a store security guard, Bayonne police said.
Cody L. Fiorino, 26, was also charged with possession of a hypodermic needle, Bayonne police Lt. Eric Amato said.
Police were responding to a QuickChek on a report of a theft when a call came in that a shoplifter was fighting with a security guard at Rite Aid on Broadway at 3:30 p.m., Amato said. The officers were re-routed and found that another Fiorino was being detained by another officer outside the Rite Aid.
Police that the security guard had confronted Fiorino, who was trying to leave with $23 in items without paying. The security guard was shoved into front door and suffered minor injuries, but Fiorino was arrested outside, Amato said.
A 35-year-old Bayonne man has been charged with stealing the entire rack of scratch-off lottery tickets during the burglary of two stores this month.
After a brief investigation, it was determined that Fiorino was also responsible for the shoplifting incident at the QuickChek earlier that day, Amato said.
