North Catasauqua Police Chief Kim Moyer Dies Unexpectedly
North Catasauqua PA July 17 2019
Police Chief Kim Moyer of North Catasauqua Borough died unexpectedly Saturday morning, police said.
Moyer had served the small borough for more than 45 years and was chief for nearly 40 years, according to a Facebook post by the department. He was 68.
Moyer was chief over four full-time and five part-time officers in North Catasauqua. In addition to serving as a police officer, Moyer was also director of the borough’s public works department for several years, according to the Facebook post.
Catasauqua Borough Police Chief Douglas Kish said Moyer was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg on Saturday morning and was pronounced dead there after several attempts to resuscitate him.
Kish worked with Moyer in the late ’70s and early ’80s, calling him a personable and knowledgeable man who was always willing to help.
“We’re going to miss him,” Kish said.
The Catasauqua Borough Police Department is covering the North Catasauqua jurisdiction of about 3,000 residents while the department and Moyer’s family cope with the loss and make funeral arrangements, Kish said.
His fellow officers called him a “role model,” “father figure” and a “friend,” saying in the Facebook post that Moyer was the “foundation on which our police department was built.”
“He was a fixture in the community and leaves behind a lasting legacy that will not soon be forgotten,” the post reads.
Kish said Moyer was taken this morning to Brubaker Funeral Home in Catasauqua. Details on funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced soon.
