Northeast Mississippi Community College police chief dies after collapsing at basketball game
BOONEVILLE, Miss. March 11th, 2024 A Mississippi community is mourning the death of a police chief who collapsed at a basketball game.
The Northeast Mississippi Community College announced the death of 61-year-old Police Chief Anthony Anderson, who worked for the school for nearly 10 years.
Officials said he collapsed at the basketball game Saturday night, according to WTVA.
He was rushed to a hospital where he later died from natural causes.
School officials posted on its Facebook page about the tragedy saying that he will be forever missed.
“Chief Anthony Anderson’s untimely departure reminds us that even the strongest among us are not immune to life’s fragility,” said the community college president Dr. Ricky G. Ford. “His dedication to safety, service, and community will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those he protected and inspired.”
Anderson was in his 24th year of law enforcement. He served at the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and became the Verona Police Chief before being employed as the Northeast Mississippi Community College’s police chief.
Anderson leaves behind his wife and three children.
