NY man charged with assaulting girlfriend, sexually attacking worker at Bally’s
Atlantic City NJ Feb 13 2018 A New York man who was arrested in an Atlantic City casino parking garage after assaulting his girlfriend returned to the scene hours later and sexually assaulted a hotel employee, according to police.
Just before 5:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the Bally’s parking garage for a report of domestic assault. There, officers found 32-year-old Jamel Carlton, who had been already been separated from his 41-year-old girlfriend by casino security after allegedly assaulting her.
The woman, who is from Freehold, sustained injuries and was treated at the site, police said. Carlton, of Saugerties, N.Y., was charged with simple assault and released pending a detention hearing, according to police.
Later that day around 11:30 a.m., police came back to the hotel for a report of a sexual assault. They found that a 51-year-old woman, who worked at the hotel, had been pushed into a hotel room and sexually and physically assaulted by a man, police said.
The woman was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries she sustained in the attack, according to police.
An investigation led police to identify her alleged attacker as Carlton. Just before 2 p.m., officers spotted him walking along Atlantic Avenue, and attempted to arrest him. He first fled, but was apprehended after a short chase, police said.
Carlton faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, burglary, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, sexual assault, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest, police said.
He is being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
