NYC man charged federally with assaulting U.S. Social Security administration security officer
Harlem NY March 7 2020
An assault of a security officer the day after Christmas 2019 at the U.S. Social Security Administration office on 126th Street has caused the suspect to be charged federally and a large bond was attached to the assault charge.
Brian Watson reportedly “approached the window without waiting for his service ticket to be called.”
According to a complaint on which Watson was arrested for assault, a Private Security Officer “employed by a private company contracted by the Federal Protective Service” then “asked Watson to remove himself from the window.”
The two then engaged in a verbal confrontation until Watson picked up a chair and assaulted the security officer.
Watson also struck him in the face using his right fist. Watson is also accused of resisting officers who were trying to arrest him.
On March 4 Watson was presented in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Magistrates Court, where a Federal Defense Attorney argued that what Watson needed mental health treatment, should be released without any bond and The Assistant US Attorney agreed.
But Magistrate Judge Kevin N. Fox disagreed with both the AUSA and the Federal Defender and required Watson to post a $2500 bond.
Watson signed, and was apparently released. The case continues.
