NYC security officer killed in horrific bus crash
Queens NY Sept 19 2017 One of the three people killed in a horrific bus-on-bus collision early Monday was a security guard on his commute home from work, his devastated widow told The Post.
“He was a good man. He was a good husband for 27 years. He was a good father to his two stepsons,” Audris Liljefors said of her husband, 55-year-old Gregory Liljefors, outside their Flushing home.
Gregory Liljefors was one of the 15 passengers aboard the Q20 MTA bus that was struck by an out-of-control charter bus in Flushing as the city bus was making a right turn from Main Street onto Northern Boulevard at 6:20 a.m.
Terrifying surveillance footage captured the moment the speeding private bus — operated by Dahlia Travel and Tours — ran a red light and plowed into the MTA bus, causing the city bus to completely spin around.
Sixteen people were injured — five critically — in the collision. Gregory was the only person aboard the bus who was killed.
“He supported his family,” said his wife, visibly in shock. “He was coming home on the bus this morning after working all night.”
The Dahlia bus driver and a pedestrian on the street were also killed in the wreck.
A passenger on the Q20 bus, 57-year-old Kim Yong Jun, was among the injured.
“I heard a crashing sound and knew the bus was hit by something. Most of the people fell in the middle of the seats,” Jun recounted, speaking through a Korean interpreter, while leaving New York Presbyterian Hospital.
“I hit my head on the chair in front of me. I passed up and woke up three or four minutes later,” said Jun, who suffered an abrasion to the back of his head and fractured several ribs.
