Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a Chicago Police detective who passed away today from an apparent suicide.
This is the first Chicago officer suicide reported this year. Most recently, Officer Paul O. Escamilla, 40, was off-duty when he was found dead Sept. 16 in the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve on the Northwest side. His death was later ruled a suicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was one of at least four officers who died by suicide in 2019.
