Off-duty officer stops robber in mall parking lot
TEXARKANA, Texas Jan 24 2021Â An off-duty officer made an arrest Wednesday when he walked up on a robbery after it happened.
Texarkana, Texas, police said Officer Aaron Jones and his father-in-law were going shopping in Central Mall on his day off.
As they were about to go inside, they heard a woman screaming nearby in the parking lot, and they both ran in her direction to find out what was going on.
She pointed to a man walking away from her and said he had just stolen her cell phone.
Police said Jones identified himself as a police officer and told the suspect to stop. The man kept on going but Jones was able to catch him before he got into his car.
Jones was punched in the mouth but detained the suspect until a mall security officer arrived and helped get the man handcuffed.
Roy MacDonald, 33, was arrested on a charge of robbery and booked into the Bi-State Jail. A judge set his bond at $75,000.
