Off duty police officer working security captures double homicide suspect
Gwinnett County GA June 11 2020 Two men were killed and a third was injured when a pickup truck ran them down outside a Gwinnett County pool hall Tuesday morning, police said.
The driver of the truck was involved in a dispute with the three victims inside Corona Billiards on Jimmy Carter Boulevard, according to Gwinnett police. At some point, the dispute spilled into the parking lot. Regul Rodriguez-Hernandez, 37, of Norcross, and Jose Lopez-Diaz, 41, were dead when officers arrived about 2 a.m. The surviving victim, identified by police as 56-year-old Ramon Gasper-Carmona of Norcross, was taken to a hospital.
Homicide investigators are still looking into the dispute that prompted the deadly incident, police said. The crime scene spanned much of the parking lot of the Cedar Village Shopping Center. “After the incident, the suspect fled the scene in a white pickup truck,” police said on Twitter.
Witnesses followed the truck on South Norcross Tucker Road, where it was pulled over by an off-duty officer working a security job at a nearby convenience store, according to police. The suspect was taken into custody.
Jose Basulto, 40, of Newnan, was charged with two counts of felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault, according to jail records. He remains in custody without bond.
Investigators would still like to speak to any witnesses. They are asked to call 770-513-5300.
