Off duty security guard dies during Texas storms
BRYAN, Texas May 1 2020— A family in Huntsville is grieving after Tuesday night’s storms caused the death of a husband and father.
A tree fell on Jorge Martinez’s mobile home on Samantha Lane at around 3 Wednesday morning, as severe weather passed through Walker County; severe weather other neighbors only heard.
A few doors down, their neighbor Amparo Maldonado said, “it did wake me up around 3 o’clock and there was loud winds… and I could hear thunder and lightning. I didn’t find out till this morning that my neighbor passed away.”
Martinez and his family were sleeping when the tree fell.
He died on impact.
No one else inside the home was injured.
Martinez was in his 40’s, and his brother in law said he worked as a high school security guard for 10 years.
He has four children, and his family said they, “especially his children, were his greatest love.”
His family has set up a go fund me for funeral expenses.
