Off-duty security guard shot while trying to break up early morning East Village argument
San Diego CA July 24 2023 An off-duty security officer suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in his thigh early Sunday morning while attempting to stop an argument in downtown’s East Village, according to San Diego police.
The shooting occurred just before 5 a.m. near the corner of Broadway and Park Boulevard. The victim was on his way to work when he spotted an argument between two males and one female, Lt. Arturo Swadener told OnScene TV.
“He was trying to intervene in what he thought was an argument,” Swadener said. “At some point somebody pulled out a gun. The victim struggled with the suspect with the gun and was shot in the leg.”
The trio ran off and bystanders tried to help the victim stop the bleeding in his leg, Swadener said. The victim was then taken to a local hospital, he said.
Police hope to use surveillance camera footage in their efforts to identify and find the suspects, Swadener said.
