Ohio school security officer knocked down-principal assaulted
MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio November 24 2019
Four Mt. Healthy school officials were assaulted by students while breaking up fights.
Two teenage girls are charged and are in juvenile detention and a third student could be facing charges.
“It’s rather disturbing to understand that someone would want to act out that way and would be that upset to want to hit a principal, actually lay their hands on a principal, someone in an authority position at the school,” said parent and community volunteer Tony Spicer.
Police reports from Monday and Tuesday describe two separate fights at the school.
“These are situations where the one was a fight in the hallway where a security guard was struck and knocked down,” police chief Vince Demasi said.
He said the school principal was also struck in the face. A female teenager was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
A second fight happened on a separate day outside. This one involved a girl who had previously been expelled and not allowed on school grounds.
Two staff members were hurt, and the child was charged with two counts of felony assault, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.
“We cannot allow you to wreak havoc on the building, that’s the truth,” superintendent Reva Cosby said.
The superintendent said there is zero tolerance for what happened this week.
“We are making sure that if those students are out of control like that, they do receive consequences. Sometimes they get arrested, as you know you can’t hit a staff member. We don’t tolerate that,” Cosby said.
This week, Cosby held two community conversations with parents and said she was encouraged by the turnout but the entire community must be accountable.
“To see the girls act out the way they do is shocking. You see it as they are walking around the school. The teachers are doing all they can do. They can’t be the authority figure, the teacher and the parent also,” Spicer said.
