Ohio security guard arrested for threatening to punch an officer “in the face several times”
SANDUSKY OH Sept 30 2021 — Three men were charged and six 9mm shell casings were recovered outside of a Sandusky event center on Friday.
At 11:20 p.m., Sandusky police received numerous calls of shots fired outside of Ten Fifty Eight Event Center in the Sandusky Plaza at Sycamore Line and Cleveland Road (U.S. 6).
As police pulled into the parking lot, about 100 people in front of the hall were seen “screaming and causing chaos,” a police report states.
Officers noted loud music was playing through a stereo system, and people were consuming alcohol outside. A man also allegedly urinated in the middle of the parking lot and exposed himself to the crowd.
Officers overheard an unidentified man say he had a pistol. It’s unknown if he knew he was speaking within earshot of the police as some of the officers were in unmarked cars, the report states.
As officers tried to identify the man who said he had a weapon, a different man began to yell profanities. That man ignored orders to leave, chest-bumped an officer and took a fighting stance.
While police detained him, another man came up from behind an officer and reached toward him “as if he was going to physically pull (the officer) away,” the report states.
Both men were arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The person who claimed he had a firearm left the scene before he could be identified.
At that point, Sandusky police made a request for assistance from Perkins police and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office to help manage a large crowd that had gathered around the officers.
The report states several people made threats to harm them, and a full bottle of liquid was thrown.
Another man, who allegedly worked security at the event, threatened to punch an officer “in the face several times” and was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, the report states.
The security guard told officers he doesn’t trust law enforcement because “his brother was murdered by the police,” the report states.
After speaking with officers and getting a court summons, the security guard calmed down and agreed to leave the area.
After the area was cleared, police began to investigate the shots fired. Six 9mm shell casings were recovered, and a vehicle window had been shot out, according to the report.
A witness told police the man who fired the shots was from out of town. She said the man got into a white car and left the area.
As police continued to investigate, a fight broke out in another area of the parking lot. Officers used a police cruiser speaker system to tell people to clear the area.
