Ohio security guards shoot and kill man pointing gun at them
LORAIN, Ohio May 25 2021— Security guards outside a bar in Lorain shot and killed a man early Sunday morning when he pointed a gun at them and refused to put it down, police say.
Marlo Sanford, 32, was taken by an ambulance to Mercy Hospital after the shooting but died of his wounds. There were no other injuries reported.
Police say the shooting occurred at about 1:30 a.m. at Club Our Space on the 200 block of East 29th Street.
Officers on patrol in the area heard several gunshots and responded to the club, where they found Sanford in front with a gunshot wound.
Additional officers were sent to the scene because of a large crowd gathering.
Police say three licensed security guards hired by the club were escorting a woman out of the club when they were met by a male, identified as Sanford, with a firearm.
The security officers reportedly told Sanford several times to drop the weapon, but he refused and instead pointed it at the security guards. The security guards then fired at Sanford.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information can call Lorain police at 440-204-2105.
