Ohio shoplifter with CCW charged with robbery
BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio – Jan 27 2019
A Canfield woman who was caught allegedly shoplifting at a Southern Park Mall store faces a more serious charge because police say she had a handgun in her purse.
Although police say 22-year-old Jessica Frenzel has a permit to carry a concealed weapon and cooperated with authorities when she was arrested at J.C. Penney, she was booked into the county jail on a charge of robbery.
According to the police report, Frenzel was confronted Thursday as she was exiting the store with a shopping bag containing $535 worth of items that hadn’t been paid for.
A store security officer told police that Frenzel was very cooperative as she was escorted back to the store’s loss prevention office.
It was there that the security officer says he discovered a Smith and Wesson .380 handgun in Frenzel’s purse.
Police confiscated the gun and Frenzel’s conceal carry permit as evidence.
The report says that because the theft offense was committed while in possession of a deadly weapon, the crime is classified as a robbery.
The police report does not list all the items found in the shopping bag but says one of the allegedly stolen items was a $23 tube of mascara.
