Oklahoma inmate charged in death of security officer
OKLAHOMA CITY OK June 14 2017 – An inmate who was at a state correctional facility in Oklahoma City has been charged with first-degree manslaughter.
Jerime Mason Williams, 38, is accused of causing the death of a security officer, who went into cardiac arrest and died after a foot chase at the facility.
The officer, Stephen Jenkins, was 42.
Williams was being held Jan. 7 in the Clara Waters Community Corrections Center, authorities reported. He was in prison on a drug possession offense.
That evening, Williams was spotted near a boundary fence at the facility and retrieving a bag of contraband, authorities said. After a short pursuit to apprehend Williams, Jenkins suffered the medical event. Williams was charged Thursday.
The bag of contraband contained loose leaf tobacco and rolling paper.
Williams, of Wilson, has been in prison off and on since 2000. He is being held in Oklahoma County jail on $20,000 bail.
