Olympia Fields man charged with biting, spitting at security officers
JOLIET, IL July 19 2022— A 25-year-old man from Olympia Fields was taken away in handcuffs on felony charges by Joliet police following a disturbance inside The Forge this past weekend.
Deron Thornton was booked into the Will County Jail on aggravated battery charges following Friday’s incident that happened around 8:45 p.m. Joliet police say the incident in downtown Joliet at 22 W. Cass St. was called in as a disturbance.
“Officers determined that Thornton and another patron had been in an argument on the second floor,” police spokesman Dwayne English announced. “Security guards requested that Thornton leave, to which he refused.”
English said that Thornton became physical with the security guards, at one point leaning over and biting a security guard on the right shoulder.
Thornton was also suspected of spitting at security guards, police noted.
Thornton had left the area prior to the arrival of Joliet police officers, but was placed into custody without incident after he returned to The Forge while officers were on scene, authorities said.
Bail for the young man from Olympia Fields is set at $20,000.
On Monday, he remained in Will County’s Jail unable to post the necessary 10 percent to regain his freedom.
