On-duty Sacramento security guard charged with felony assault
Sacramento CA Dec 5 2017 A fight at the corner of K and 20th streets over the weekend resulted in one person being hospitalized and a security guard being arrested on a felony battery charge.
Sacramento Police Department officers responded to calls around 2:20 a.m. Saturday to find a man lying unconscious with a gash in the back of his head and Darion Parnell, 21, nowhere to be seen. The victim was transported to a local hospital and found to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Parnell was arrested Saturday night in the same area after a police observational pod picked up video of the alleged assault, police spokesman Eddie Macaulay said. He was booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of felony battery against a person causing serious bodily injury and a probation violation, and remained in custody on $60,000 bail as of 2 p.m. Monday.
Macaulay said the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Parnell was not working security for any one bar or club, but was likely hired by an entertainment venue collective to patrol midtown streets during peak hours. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
