One dead, seven wounded in shooting at Grambling State

A gunman opened fire on a group of students at Grambling State University early on Sunday, leaving one person dead several others wounded.
The shooter opened fire at about 1 a.m. outside a dining hall where students were celebrating a homecoming event — forcing attendees to lockdown and shelter in place.
One victim was a student enrolled at the university. That person was being treated at a local hospital for unspecified injuries, the university said in a statement.
The identities of the other seven victims have not been released. Police have not identified a suspect on Sunday.
Frightening cell phone footage obtained by KNOE shows the moments the shots were fired, sending students fleeing for their lives.
In the video, a rowdy crowd fights brawls as others circle around and shout. Eight loud “pops” ring out, sending the group running away.
A curfew is being enforced from 9:30 p.m. through 6 a.m. until further notice, the university announced.
Homecoming events planned for Sunday have been canceled, as well as all classes, in-person and online, for Monday and Tuesday. The school has also offered counseling services to students and staff.
On Oct. 13, two individuals not enrolled at the university began shooting at each other just after 1 a.m., killing one and injuring the other.
Two GSU students received non-life-threatening injuries in the crossfire and were treated at a local hospital.
Louisiana State Police announced that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Jatavious Carroll, also known as “Rabbit,” in Wednesday’s shooting. He was charged with murder.
Grambling State’s President blamed the week of violence on individuals not connected to the university, which is set to celebrate its 120th birthday this year.
“Our students come here for an education and far too often it’s outsiders who have created these situations that have put life and limb in danger,” Grambling State President Rick Gallot said on Sunday. “That’s not why we’re here. That’s not what we’re about after 120 years, and so again, our priority is keeping our students safe.”
Both shootings are being investigated by the Louisiana State Police.
