PA girl kidnapped at high school-suspect shot to death by police
Luzerne County PA December 3 2019
A teen kidnapped at knifepoint Sunday afternoon was freed unharmed after police killed her abductor, authorities said.
Jordan Patrick Oliver, 20, kidnapped 15-year-old Samara Derwin outside Nanticoke High School in Luzerne County and fled with her in a stolen police vehicle, according to a statement from Pennsylvania State Police at Wyoming.
The state police Emergency Response Team tracked Oliver and Derwin in a wooded area of Warrior Run Borough, where Oliver was killed.
According to state police, Nanticoke officers were called to an area near the high school around 3:18 p.m. and found Oliver holding Derwin hostage with a knife to her throat.
As police negotiated, “the female victim became separated from Oliver,” the news release said. “The female was directed to a Nanticoke City police vehicle as officers attempted to take Oliver into custody. A struggle ensued and Oliver sprayed mace on the officers and fled in the [police vehicle] with the female victim.”
Nanticoke Police Chief Robert Lehman told the Wilkes-Barre Citizens’ Voice that an officer fired shots at Oliver.
A statewide Amber Alert was issued, and Oliver was charged in a warrant with kidnapping, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint and theft. State police and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office took over the investigation.
Investigators traced the pair to the Warrior Run area, where the deadly confrontation ensued late Sunday night. The release does not specify how Oliver was killed.
