Pasadena man charged with robbery after trying to stab store security
Pasadena CA June 8 2017 A 25-year-old Pasadena man who is an AB 109 probationer was arrested Saturday after he reportedly stole items from a 99 Cents Only Store on Colorado Blvd. and then attempted to stab a security guard who confronted him about the theft.
Javeon Gregory Curtis was booked on suspicion of armed robbery after the incident, according to Pasadena Police Lt. William Grisafe. Curtis was on post-release community supervision under the terms of AB 109 following a previous assault conviction.
A security guard reportedly noticed Curtis leaving the store at 1720 E. Colorado Blvd. at about 4 p.m. without paying for items he picked up. The security guard approached Curtis to confront him, and a fight ensued.
Grisafe said Curtis pulled out a knife and tried to stab the security guard but missed. Curtis then fled.
Officers arrived on scene shortly after and found the suspect nearby. He was detained without incident after the security guard identified him, the report said.
Curtis is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear Tuesday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pasadena.
