Pedestrian hit by security patrol car on 71st Street, police vehicles struck during investigation
Tulsa OK Aug 19 2018 A woman was struck by a security patrol vehicle Friday night while crossing 71st Street near Riverside Drive.
While police were investigating that collision, another vehicle struck a police patrol vehicle that had its emergency lights activated, causing a chain reaction that involved additional police cars that were parked at the scene. About four vehicles were struck in that chain-reaction.
The pedestrian and the two occupants of the vehicle that hit the police car, both women, were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life threatening, Cpl. C.M. Caughron said.
The auto-pedestrian crash occurred when a security guard driving west in the 1600 block of East 71st Street struck the pedestrian as she was walking across the road just east of the bridge over Joe Creek around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said the woman was believed to be a suspect that had been reportedly seen breaking into vehicles.
Tulsa police traffic investigators probed both collisions Friday night and no arrests were made. East 71st Street was shut down at the Joe Creek bridge for much of the night.
