Pedicab Driver Arrested After Dragging NYC Parks Officer
NEW YORK NY May 11 2018 A Parks Enforcement Patrol officer was dragged by a pedicab in Central Park Wednesday.
It happened around 1:10 p.m. near 66th Street.
The incident began when two Parks Enforcement Patrol officers were attempting to issue a summons to the pedicab driver at Tavern on the Green.
That’s when police say the driver, identified as 52-year-old Brent Greenberg, took off. One officer’s radio became entangled in the wheels of the pedicab, and she was dragged 50-100 feet.
“The guy was just loitering in the area, not doing anything. So they asked him, ‘What’s going on? What are you doing here?’ He didn’t respond. They asked him again, didn’t respond, he decided to run,” witness Nancy Balducci told CBS2. “Dragging the parks worker in the back, and her partner in the front was grabbing the guy by the neck.”
“She was kind of hanging off the top but laying kind of backwards with her feet dragging on the ground. It looked bad,” said witness Sandy Brumley. “He was belligerent at first but then calmed down.”
The officer was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital with minor cuts and bruises.
Authorities said Greenberg was arrested for pedicab restrictions, resisting arrest and obstruction of government administration.
While pedicabs are legal in Central Park, they are not allowed in front of Tavern on the Green. Officials also say the driver had a motor on his pedicab, which is also not allowed.
