Person bypasses security with knife at Tulsa International Airport
TULSA, Okla. – October 5 2018
TSA officials say a person who bypassed security and boarded a flight at Tulsa International Airport took a ceremonial cake knife onto the plane.
Flights and passengers were being held by TSA at Tulsa International Airport early Thursday morning.
Security held the flights for a short time around 6 a.m. Thursday after a traveler passed through security and boarded a flight to Chicago.
TSA and law enforcement officials met the individual when the plane lands in Chicago.
TSA told FOX23 the passenger was taken to a checkpoint and re-screened.
A ceremonial cake knife was removed from her carry on bag.
The incident is still under investigation.
TSA released the following statement about the situation:
“We take this case very seriously. TSA is aware of a traveler who appeared to have intentionally circumvented the screening process this morning at Tulsa International Airport and boarded a flight to Chicago. Vigilance by one of our TSA officers lead to the discovery of the security breach and alerted law enforcement. Out of an abundance of caution, local law enforcement and TSA will meet the individual upon arrival in Chicago.
“Today, all air travelers are subject to a robust security system that employs multiple layers of security, both seen and unseen, including: intelligence gathering and analysis, cross-checking passenger manifests against watchlists, thorough screening at checkpoints, random canine team screening at airports, reinforced cockpit doors, Federal Air Marshals, armed pilots and a vigilant public.” – TSA
A follow up statement was released after they met the passenger:
Local law enforcement and TSA met the individual upon arrival at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The passenger was escorted to the checkpoint and rescreened. A ceremonial cake knife was removed from her carry-on bag. TSA continues to investigate this matter and has the authority to assess a civil penalty of up to $7,840 for circumventing security.
