Person killed in Stillman College shooting identified
TUSCALOOSA, Ala March 10 2020 UPDATE (3/9): The Tuscaloosa Police Department and the Violent Crimes Unit have released information on the deadly shooting at Stillman College Monday morning.
According to authorities, a subject was found deceased at 4:20 a.m. on the college’s campus. The subject was later identified as 22-year-old Davanta Anderson.
TPD says a person of interest was taken into custody for questioning but was released upon further investigation.
“Significant issues of self-defense were raised and are present in this incident,” a press release from TPD read.
After consulting the District Attorney’s Office, it was decided that the case will be heard by a grand jury to evaluate if any charges should be brought against any suspects.
Vice President of Student Affairs Tyshawn Gardner released a statement on the shooting.
“There was an incident here on campus at Stillman College,” Gardner said. “Our students are safe as they always have been the investigation is ongoing. We didn’t have any students hurt or injured or involved. We have a very secure campus and of course, we will continue to keep our students and staff safe.”
No other information has been released at this time. Authorities say there is no threat to the campus at this time.
