Pimlico Raceway security officer attacked by 12-14 teens
BALTIMORE MD May 21 2017
Baltimore Police Department said to expect extra security, especially in areas around the track after a security guard there was attacked by a group of juveniles Friday morning.
“A group of juveniles, roughly 12 to 14 years old, did punch him. He fortunately was not seriously injured,” said Chief Melissa Hyatt, BPD Chief of Special Operations and Development.
Baltimore City police spoke about a security guard being assaulted while working outside the gates of Pimlico at around 4:30 a.m.
While police said they were still investigating, witnesses said the juveniles also stole several golf carts and went on joy rides near the fenced-in area of the track while throwing rocks at people who were working.
“We’ll have our resources out over the course of the night, start staffing early while most people are still asleep, so there will be a strong presence both inside and outside of the track,” Hyatt said.
Because of this, BPD will be upping patrols, especially in the time leading up to the race.
