PITTSBURGH PA Sept 24 2018 – Dozens of security guards marched through downtown Pittsburgh Friday evening demanding better wages and benefits.
The rally took place on the anniversary of the Gateway hostage situation from six years ago.
Security guards from across the city used drums and loudspeakers to demand that their wages be upped to $15 an hour. Currently, many security guards make $10 an hour.
The union’s contract is coming up and members are demanding better benefits and wages.
One of the people to address the crowd was Donna Sciulli, who was inside Gateway Three, and refused to leave until the scene was safe.
“Those tenants become your family you few with them on a daily basis. They are your family. They become part of you,” she said.
The union director says negotiations have been on-going for weeks and the current contract expires in nine days.
