Police and Gettysburg College public safety officers capture burglar

A Menallen Township man is currently in Adams County prison after police say he broke into a Gettysburg College residence and took various items.
Joshua Tracy Wyatt, 36, of the 400 block of Mount Tabor Road, was found inside a college residence by Gettysburg Borough police and officers from the college’s department of public safety, according to an affidavit filed with District Judge Matthew Harvey.
On Dec. 24, 2018, at about 10:40 p.m., police were advised that the college’s security officers were reporting a burglary with the suspect still possibly inside a residence hall in the 200 block of Carlisle Street.
Police and security officers searched the building and found Wyatt holding a crowbar in a room on the first floor.
They commanded him to drop his hands, and he immediately dropped the crowbar and complied, the affidavit states.
Wyatt was identified by his corrections inmate ID card and was taken into custody.
He was searched and police found large amounts of cash, loose change, gift cards, 2 JUUL vaporizers and refill cartridges, wallet, cellphone, cigarettes, lighters and other miscellaneous items.
They also found $78 in his wallet and $220 worth of Euros. In his backpack, they found items that included a screwdriver, batteries,and a “Hemplucid” vape cartridge, police said in the affidavit.
Wyatt told the security officer that he gained access to the residence hall by throwing a brick through the window.
He was charged with burglary, conspiracy to possess an instrument of crime, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, according to online court documents.
Wyatt is being held in prison in lieu of $50,000 bail and has a formal arraignment scheduled for Feb. 28.
His attorney declined to comment.
