Police arrest man accused of shooting a man and shooting at security officers
San Antonio TX February 16 2024 San Antonio police have arrested a 21-year-old man accused of shooting a man and pointing his gun at security officers at a Northwest Side gentleman’s club on Monday.
Moses Adam Mata has been charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police said he got into a shootout with three men shortly after 2 a.m. Monday at Sugar’s Nightclub on the Northwest Side.
According to the arrest affidavit, police responded to a shooting in progress at the gentleman’s club and found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound.
Officers made contact with two security guards at the scene who described Mata as the shooter.
The 26- and 58-year-old security guards told police that after Mata fired his weapon at the 23-year-old man, they told him to “drop his weapon,” the affidavit states.
Instead of dropping his weapon, Mata turned and pointed his firearm at the two security guards, and they fired their weapons, striking Mata, police said. He was wounded at the scene.
Witnesses and the security guards described Mata as wearing a “red puffy jacket” at the time of the incident. Witnesses said they saw Mata get in a black sedan, still wearing the jacket, and flee from the location.
While police were accessing the crime scene, Mata showed up at University Hospital wearing the “red puffy jacket” with multiple gunshot wounds. A witness with Mata at the gentleman’s club drove him to the hospital, the affidavit states.
Mata’s bail was set at $225,000. He has been released on bond.
