Police arrest man for the murder of Detroit security officer
DETROIT MI May 20 2022 A person is in custody in connection with the shooting death of a security guard outside of a mental health facility in Detroit back in March.
Detroit police officials said on Tuesday a suspect in the shooting at Team Wellness Center on March 30 has been arrested.
Authorities did not immediately identify the person who was arrested, but police had previously said they were searching for 21-year-old Demetres Nathaniel Johnson.
Police said back in April that Johnson had entered the facility on Mack Avenue but was told to leave because he didn’t live there.
Authorities said he came back later in the day and approached two security guards outside the building with his hands in his pockets. When he was asked to open his pockets, police officials said he pulled out a gun and fired shots.
Security guard Diante Davis was killed, and another guard was injured.
Authorities had initially taken a different person into custody for questioning, but he was cleared of the shooting and released. Detroit police later launched a manhunt for Johnson, saying he was considered armed and dangerous.
Police said no further details on Tuesday’s arrest were available.
