Police arrest man in connection to baseball bat threats against security
BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. Jan 1 2020 Authorities have arrested an Easton man accused of using a baseball bat to threaten a security guard at a Bethlehem Township company and smash all the windows in his guard shack.
Jonathan Pena Urena, of West Milton Street, has been wanted by township police since the Oct. 18 incident outside DSC Logistics at 2600 Broadhead Road. District Judge Roy Manwaring arraigned the 24-year-old late Friday night, setting bail at $10,000.
Bethlehem Township police were dispatched to DSC Logistics about 9:30 p.m. the night of the alleged incident to investigate a report of a possible burglary in progress. Officers arrived to find the victim locked in the bathroom of the guard shack that sits at the front of the property.
The victim told police that Pena Urena, whom he knows on a personal level, pulled up outside the guard shack, according to court records. He did not work at DSC Logistics, so he had no reason to be there, the victim told police.
With an aluminum baseball bat in his hand, Pena Urena approached the door of the guard shack, allegedly smashed the window with the bat and yelled for the victim to come outside, according to records. That prompted the guard to grab his cell phone and head for the bathroom.
Before the victim could retreat to the bathroom, Pena Urena smashed the window on the door a second time, causing it to shatter, according to police. The guard said he suffered some cuts to his head from the glass.
Pena Urena proceeded to walk into the guard shack and allegedly smash 17 windows, a telephone and other office equipment, causing about $4,000 worth of damage. Locked inside the bathroom, the victim said he called 911 as Pena Urena allegedly hit the door several times, questioned the victim’s manhood and said, “You know where I am at, come tomorrow,” according to court records.
Pena Urena now faces single felony counts of aggravated assault and criminal trespass along with misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, simple assault and criminal mischief and a summary count of harassment.
The judge allowed for a 10 percent cash option on Pena Urena’s bail, if approved by pre-trial services. It was approved, and he was released from Northampton County Prison on Monday after someone posted $1,000 cash bail on his behalf.
His next court date is a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 10.
