Police impersonator threatens to shoot hospital security officer
Annapolis, MD May 5 2023— A police impersonation suspect returned to the Anne Arundel Medical Center on Tuesday and threatened to shoot a hospital security guard, officials said.
Officers identified the suspect as 64-year-old Glenn Anthony Atkins of Annapolis.
Authorities said they arrested an intoxicated Atkins on Monday outside the Annapolis hospital.
Police accused Atkins of exposing his genitals while urinating near the road and falsely claiming to be an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Court records show that a judge released Atkins on recognizance after this first arrest.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department said it was called to the hospital around 8 p.m. Tuesday for a weapon violation and trespassing.
A press release said hospital security confiscated two guns from the suspect, who told security that he was there to shoot another security guard.
No shots were fired, and authorities said they arrested Atkins again.
Court records show that Atkins was charged with these three misdemeanors after the second encounter:
Handgun on person
Loaded handgun on person
Intoxicated endanger
This time, the record says that a judge ordered Atkins to be held without bond until his trial.
