Police investigate shooting in Marlborough Mall parking lot
Calgary Canada June 26 2020
Calgary police are investigating after gunfire was reported in the parking lot of Marlborough Mall in the city’s northeast Saturday afternoon.
According to police, officers were called to the 400 block of Marlborough Way N.E. around 3:40 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of shots fired. On arrival, police found a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire. Shell casings were also found. No suspects were taken into custody.
Nathan Peters, who lives across the street from Marlborough Mall, said he was getting his kids ready to leave the house when he heard five to six shots fired on the sidewalk of Marlborough Way, adjacent to the mall.
“I saw two guys on the sidewalk pointing and ducking at each other. I can’t say I saw a gun, but I saw them pointing, so I could only assume,” Peters said.
After the gunfire, Peters said he saw the two parties walk away in opposite directions — one north on Marlborough Way, and one south.
Peters said he wasn’t surprised or worried by the shooting.
“Honestly, it’s kind of just what’s expected around the area,” he said.
Police say they are continuing to search the scene and detectives are investigating the shooting.
In a statement, Marlborough Mall said it security service was working with police.
“Mall Security is cooperating with Calgary Police Service who are investigating an incident which occurred in the parking lot on June 20, 2020,” the statement read.
