IBERIA, Mo. February 15 2019 Police said a Missouri prison nurse, intent on marrying an inmate, was charged with poisoning her husband with antifreeze before setting their home on fire.

Miller County authorities announced Friday that 40-year-old Amy Murray, of Iberia, has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of her husband, Joshua Murray. No attorney is listed for her in online court records.

His body was found after the fire on Dec. 11, the Jefferson City News-Tribune reports. The State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Miller County Sheriff’s Department determined that an accelerant was used to start the fire in the master bedroom. An autopsy determined that he died of poisoning before the blaze.

Murray had been employed as a nurse at the Jefferson City Correctional Center, where she developed a romantic relationship with an inmate, according to a probable cause statement obtained by the News-Tribune.

At one point, she told the inmate — identified as 40-year-old Eugene Claypool — that she didn’t want to be around her husband and wanted to divorce him, the report stated. Murray later told Claypool they could get married because her husband was dead, according to police.

Claypool is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, the News-Tribune reported. The pair reportedly discussed getting Claypool an attorney so he could be released from prison early.

Murray is now being held on a $750,000 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
