Police say bouncer at Decatur bar knocks out 2 patrons
DECATUR IL March 26 2019— The Decatur Police Department is investigating an aggravated battery case, after a bouncer at a Decatur bar knocked out two patrons early Sunday morning after a verbal argument turned physical, detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said.
A woman and her boyfriend were leaving the bar about 1:45 a.m., and the woman apparently had been arguing with another woman inside Feeling Lucky Lounge & Package, 3775 N. Woodford St., Copeland said. The bouncer confronted the woman about the argument, he said, and her boyfriend then began verbally arguing with the bouncer.
Copeland said the verbal argument turned into a physical altercation, and the woman intervened. Both the man and the woman were punched unconscious by the bouncer, Copeland said.
The woman went to Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries to her neck, head and face, Copeland said, and the man was not being treated.
The department is still investigating the case, trying to locate the bouncer, Copeland said.
The owner of the bar, Troy Chastain, told the Herald & Review Monday evening that the police report had gotten the basic details wrong.
Chastain said the couple who were knocked out had been causing trouble and were assaulted by people who were not part of what he describes as the bar’s security personnel.
“They didn’t get knocked out by ‘bouncers,’ they got knocked out by these other people,” said Chastain. “First, the boyfriend got knocked out and then she (the girlfriend) ran over there and up to them and then she got knocked out.”
Chastain said the trouble took place in the parking lot and all his security employees were trying to do was to keep the couple from causing trouble by keeping everybody apart. He described the boyfriend and girlfriend as “drunk and rude and troublemakers” from the time they arrived at Feeling Lucky.
He said police were painting an unfair picture of what happened and giving his business a bad name. “What I say happened isn’t my point of view, it’s the truth,” he added.
