ProMedica security officer saves little girl from getting hit by a car
TOLEDO, Ohio January 23 2019 Michael Metzger says it was a normal day of work at ProMedica’s Center for Health Services in Toledo when things quickly changed.
The longtime security guard was making his rounds last Wednesday when he saw a little girl dart from the door of the building toward busy Central Avenue.
13abc obtained a copy of the surveillance video that captured the whole incident.
In the video you can see the girl start running down the sidewalk toward Central Avenue. Just seconds later Metzger jumps into action and chases after the little one. Then, just in the nick of time, he swoops in and stops the girl before she leaves the sidewalk.
13abc caught up with Metzger and his fiancee to talk about his act of heroism. He says he doesn’t see himself as a hero, but rather as someone who was just doing their job and a good deed.
“It was an act of God because the timing was just so perfect,” said Metzger. “A few seconds later and it probably would have been too late.”
“I’m just so very proud of him anyway–besides that,” said Metzger’s fiancee Felicia Wylie. “It’s just one more notch in his belt for me being proud of him.”
Metzger says he wouldn’t change a thing when it comes to the way he reacted to the situation. If fact, he says he’d step up and do it again if he ever has to.
