Raleigh man charged with armed robbery after stealing TV from Walmart
KNIGHTDALE, N.C. January 5 2019 The man who Knightdale police say stole a big screen TV from a Walmart and threatened employees with a gun on his way out has been arrested.
Jeffrey Brent Penny, 55, of Raleigh, has been arrested and charged with common law robbery, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony possession of cocaine.
According to Town of Knightdale public information officer Jonas Silver, the incident occurred at the Walmart located at 7106 Knightdale Blvd. around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
Employees told police that a white male 45-60 years old was pushing a big screen TV out of the store’s garden center when he was confronted by two employees attempting to verify that he bought the TV. After the employees asked about the TV, the man took out a handgun and pointed it at the workers before making threatening comments and leaving the store.
The employees ran back into the store after being threatened and were unharmed, Silver said.
The charges are in connection with the Knightdale incident as well as another incident that occurred in Raleigh before Christmas, Silver said.
The cocaine charge comes after Penny was found with drugs when he was stopped by Raleigh police, officials said.
He is being held in the Wake County Detention Center under a $260,000 bond.
