Recently retired Syracuse police officer dies suddenly
SYRACUSE, N.Y. May 9 2019— A recently retired Syracuse police officer who spent more than a decade as a school resource officer in the Syracuse City School District “passed away unexpectedly” this weekend, according to his current employer.
Officer Ken Albro worked at Fowler High School before retiring from the Syracuse Police Department and taking a job in the Chittenango school district.
Albro died Sunday morning, according to a Facebook post by a family member. His death was confirmed by the Chittenango School District (his current employer) and the Syracuse Teachers Association.
The family member’s post has been shared more than 700 times.
Hundreds of former and current Fowler students have shared the post and are remembering Albro as a great man, mentor and role model.
Many former students wrote on social media that Albro was the reason they graduated and others said he was a father figure who cared about them.
Awesome, caring and amazing are a few of the words that Fowler students are using to describe the former Syracuse detective.
The Syracuse Teachers Association remembered Albro as “a vital member” of the Fowler community.
“Staff and students alike loved Officer Albro as an amazing person with a great heart and a friendly face,” the teachers association posted on Facebook. “This is a tragic loss for our district, the Syracuse Police Department, his family, and for all those who knew him.”
Albro, of Oneida, worked in the Chittenango school district for less than two months. He was a school resource officer for about seven weeks at Chittenango Middle School, according to a letter that was emailed to parents Sunday evening.
“Ken formed exceptionally positive relationships within the CMS community and his presence will be missed tremendously,” the letter stated.
