Red Roof Inn security guard injured after drunk man intentionally assaults him with vehicle
Hanover Township PA May 20 2021
A drunk man hit a hotel security guard with his vehicle Saturday after causing a disturbance at the business’s front desk in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, police said.
Deron Foster, 26, of the first block of Winfield Court, Easton, is charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and DUI, and was cited with reckless driving, disorderly conduct, driving with a suspended or revoked license and parking in a handicapped-accessible space following the 10:58 p.m. incident at Red Roof Inn on Catasauqua Road.
District Judge Patricia Engler released Foster on $25,000 bail.
The Red Roof Inn security guard was treated for elbow and knee injuries at a hospital, state police at Bethlehem said in a news release.
According to police:
The guard reported Foster sped into the parking lot in a four-door sedan, “came to a screeching stop” and dropped off a passenger. The guard shined a flashlight toward the vehicle and questioned Foster, who yelled profanities at him and then parked nearby.
The guard returned to the hotel lobby, saw the vehicle parked illegally in a handicapped-accessible space and saw Foster yelling at the front desk attendant about security. The guard said Foster appeared to be drunk.
Foster became confrontational when the guard tried to stop him to call 911.
The guard was standing by Foster’s open driver-side door, with Foster in the driver seat, when Foster drove off in reverse. The guard was hit by the door and then dragged for 15 yards before the vehicle came to a stop.
The guard drew his gun to stop Foster, but Foster drove forward, hit him with the vehicle’s front driver side and drove away. Police later interviewed a witness who corroborated the guard’s story.
Foster returned a short time later and spoke with police, who smelled alcohol on him and saw he had glassy, bloodshot eyes. Foster told police he had alcoholic drinks at a barbecue earlier. He admitted hitting and dragging the guard, fleeing the scene and calling 911.
