Redding security officer assist police in burglary arrest
REDDING, Calif. April 23 2019– A man from Illinois was arrested early Sunday morning in Redding for burglarizing the 76 gas station on E. Cypress Avenue, but later criminal threat charges were added when the arrested suspect threatened to kill officers and jail staff.
At approximately 2:37 a.m. Sunday officers with the Redding Police Department responded to a burglar alarm at the 76 gas station at 482 E. Cypress Avenue.
A security guard in the area had observed a man breaking into the business through a window. The witness told police they then saw the man carrying merchandise from the store as he was leaving. This security guard provided a description of the suspect and direction of travel to police.
Officers quickly located a trail of merchandise leading away from the business and into a yard located nearby. There officers found a man matching the description provided by the security guard hiding in a vehicle in the driveway of that residence.
The man was identified as Alex Wojciechowski, age 31 of Illinois.
Police said that when he was taken into custody he had stolen property on his person that belonged to the owner of the vehicle he was caught hiding in.
Wojciewchosxki was positively identified by the security guard as the subject who broke into the 76 gas station. The business owner arrived and confirmed the business had been burglarized and the merchandise was returned.
Wojciechowski was transported to the Shasta County jail and booked on two counts of burglary. Police said that while at the jail Wojciechowski threatened to kill officers and jail staff so was also booked on criminal threats.
