Ret. D.C. officer indicted for second-degree murder in fatal shooting of trainee
Washington DC May 14 2023 A retired D.C. police lieutenant has been indicted for the death of a special police officer he shot in the chest during training in August 2022.
Retired Metropolitan Police Lieutenant Jesse Porter was conducting a baton training session at the Anacostia Library.
After the exercise Porter’s training group was posing for a photo when the officer interrupted them to fix her hair and face mask.
That is when Porter grabbed a gun and shot her. He later told police he thought he had grabbed his training gun, WTOP reported.
Porter was indicted on three counts: second-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence and unlawful discharge of a firearm, FOX 5 reported.
He was charged earlier with involuntary manslaughter.
Porter conducted the training as a private contractor for the library’s special police officers.
