Retired police officer, current security guard charged with sex crimes
Beloit IL June 12 2018
The City of Beloit Police Department announces the arrest of Larry Woods, 62, of Beloit, for the sexual assault of a child. Woods was taken into custody on Saturday, June 9, as part of the investigation.
Information on the sexual assault was brought forward by the child’s mother on Saturday. Detectives and officers immediately gathered information in order to make a swift arrest in this case. This is an active, ongoing investigation.
Woods retired as a patrol officer from the City of Beloit Police Department in 2007. He has most recently been working as a security guard with the School District of Beloit and the Beloit Public Library. He has been placed on administrative leave from the Beloit Public Library.
“The allegations against a former officer are abhorrent and tarnish the badge that so many men and women are proud to wear,” said Police Chief David B. Zibolski. “Woods’ actions with this child betray the community that he swore to protect. We appreciate the community’s support as we further investigate Woods’ actions.”
Woods is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Rock County Circuit Court.
If you have additional information regarding Woods, please contact the City of Beloit Police Department at (608) 757-2244.
The City of Beloit Police Department will not be giving interviews about this arrest on Monday, June 11. Chief Zibolski will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the City of Beloit Police Department.
