Retired Worcester police officer, security guard arrested for shooting at a vehicle
Worcester MA October 3 2023 A report of a gunshot at the McDonald’s on Mill Street on Saturday, Sept. 30, led to the arrest of a man on weapons charges.
After arriving at the scene, police spoke with William Trotta, 78, a security guard assigned to the plaza at 638 Chandler St.
The Telegram and Gazette reports Trotta is also a retired Worcester Police officer.
According to police, Trotta said he saw a Chevrolet Silverado drive through the plaza in an extremely aggressive manner on the previous Saturday, Sept. 23.
On this Saturday, Trotta saw the same vehicle operating in a similar way before pulling into the McDonald’s parking lot and parking. Trotta told police he pulled his vehicle behind the Silverado and parked in a manner that created difficulty for the truck to leave.
Trotta told police he approached the Silverado and tapped on the window, which prompted the driver to back into his vehicle multiple times before fleeing. Trotta said he fired two shots at the vehicle as it fled. Officers reviewed the surveillance video and confirmed Trotta’s account.
Police arrested Trotta, who faces charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling.
