Richmond Virginia thief pedals off with $3,000 electric security patrol bicycle
RICHMOND, Va. July 6 2018 — Authorities are looking to identify an individual who stole an expensive electric bicycle from Capital Square on Tuesday.
The Pedego electric bicycle, owned by a private security contractor dedicated to patrolling parking garages and other facilities at the Capitol, is valued at about $3,000.
An unidentified male took the bicycle at 9:26 a.m. from 12th and Bank Streets and pedaled west on Bank Street before leaving the Capitol’s grounds, according to a Capitol Police news release.
The high-end bicycle requires a key to activate an electric throttle and pedal assist, which allows it to quickly reach speeds of 20 mph.
The stolen bicycle did not have the key inside of it at the time of the incident, however, the thief was able to pedal the bicycle away.
