Robbers attack cash van security guard outside HSBC branch

A cash van security guard was injured after being ambushed and attacked by robbers outside an HSBC branch in Shirley.
The guard was transferring money to the Stratford Road branch at 10.20am on Tuesday when he was set upon and assaulted.
He sustained injuries to his hand which were not said to be serious.
An investigation has been launched into the broad daylight robbery.
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “ Police were called to a bank on Stratford Road, Shirley at 10.20am today (16 July) to reports that a cash in transit guard had been assaulted and robbed.
“The guard suffered injuries to his hand, which are not thought to be serious.
“Investigations are at an early stage and enquiries remain ongoing.”
The branch is near Morrisons supermarket and Shirley Park.
