Robbery suspect armed with assault rifle, body armor fatally shot by security guard
DALLAS TX October 9 2019 A robbery suspect was shot and killed by an armed security officer in the 3100 block of Knox Street overnight Tuesday.
The suspect attempted to break into an Apple store around 2:30 a.m., Dallas police said.
That is when the security officer, a retired police officer, shot him.
There had been construction work going on at the store, and a back door had been left open. The suspect allegedly entered through that door and was immediately challenged by the security officer.
A witness police spoke with said a suspect “entered the rear of the business armed with an assault rifle and wearing body armor and attempted to commit a robbery,” according to the release.
The suspect allegedly tried to disarm the security officer before the security officer was able to pull out his weapon. The security guard fired multiple times and hit the suspect, who ran for a short distance before collapsing in a rear alley, DPD’s release said.
According to police on the scene, the suspect was transported to the hospital, where he later died.
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting. Since it involved a security officer, the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is handling it, the release said.
